Multiparameter Flow Cytometry and
Compensation
Our first course
in Multiparameter Flow Cytometry, taught by Dr. Carleton Stewart,
Director of the Flow Cytometry Lab of Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, New
York, was a great success. This has evolved into an excellent introduction
to moving from 2-3 colors to 8! And we have added a comprehensive section
on the latest understanding and developments in compensation. This
presentation is based very strongly on the work of Mario Roederer, Dave Parks,
and Wayne Moore. It is taught by Dr. Jennifer Wilshire, Dr.
Tim Bushnell, Carol
Oxford, Peter Lopez, Dr. Dorothy Lewis, and Rich Konz. It is an excellent help toward an understanding of the complexities of adding those
last 6-10 colors!
Multiparameter Cell Cycle and DNA Analysis and Modfit Software Courses
We offer two courses in DNA analysis, a software
course taught by Don Herbert or Mark Munson of Verity
Software House, the experts in DNA analysis in Flow Cytometry, and a
Multiparameter Cell Cycle course, taught by Dr. Frank Traganos, with a panel of
experts on dyes, software, and answering topical questions on DNA and Cell Cycle
analysis. Space is extremely limited in the computer software workshops because this
course is a hands-on computer
training. Tuition for this course at the computer is $400. Both
courses are seldom scheduled, so when you
see this one scheduled near you, register as early as possible to ensure your
place.
Intracellular Flow
Dr. Dorothy Lewis has joined us as an associate
and primarily teaches our Intracellular course. Our goal is to help remove
the mystique and give you fundamental help with staining, fixation and
permeabilization techniques for staining all aspects of intracellular structure
for analysis by flow cytometry,
Apoptosis
Course
We have prepared for you, an excellent course
covering the topics of Apoptosis. We usually offer this course in
conjunction with other Advanced courses in flow. Andrew Beernink has
developed this curriculum from his experience using these techniques
and it is currently taught by Dr. Dorothy Lewis.
Data Analysis Course
Dr. Tim Bushnell of University of Rochester, NY,
has developed a great course on the complex issues of Data analysis,
what statistics actually are telling you, which to use in which
situation, how to properly control your assays for accurate statistics
and what is coming in the future! This course is applicable no
matter what analysis program you use, however FlowJo will be an
example used.
Phospho Flow
Carol Oxford of University of California Davis and
Dr. Nikesh Kotecha have organized this course based on the training from Dr. Garry Nolan's
lab on the use of Phospho Flow techniques. Phosphorylation of
signaling proteins within cells modulates their activity. In many
cases, phosphorylation leads to the activation of the protein (MAP
kinases, Stat transcription factors), while in some cases,
phosphorylation maintains protein in an inactive state (Lck, for
example). Therefore, measurement of phosphorylation of specific
residues on these signaling proteins is critical to understanding how
signaling cascades work. This course will introduce you to the
technique. A hands on lab course, to teach
the technique itself, is an option, and can be included on request!
Non Mammalian Cells in Flow Cytometry
Dr. David Galbraith of University of Arizona has
joined us to present a brand new 1/2 day course on Flow Cytometric Issues
with Non Mammalian Cells. This course will cover plants, bacteria,
yeasts and other non mammalian species, and issues with staining,
processing and analyzing these cells.
Fluorescent Proteins in Flow Cytometry and Sorting
Dr. David Galbraith of University of Arizona has
also prepared a brand new 1/2 day course on Fluorescent Proteins in Flow
Cytometry, What are they, A little history, how
they were discovered and Why they are so
useful. Adding the use of FPs to your experiments can greatly
enhance your research capabilities... Learn how to take advantage of
these amazing reagents!
Standardization, Characterization, validation and Controls in Flow Cytometry
This course is
critical for anyone responsible for data from any flow cytometer!!
If you run a core, a single instrument or take your samples to another
lab, you need to know these critical considerations for producing good
data! Every instrument should perform at peak performance, and
produce equivalent results! If you are concerned about
your results, please consider this course! We cover all aspects of
Optimizing your instrument and assays.
Certification Examination Preparation Course
FloCyte is
offering the first preparation course for the new ICCS and ISAC
certification examination! If you are planning on taking this
test, ask about attending one of our preparation courses. Dates
and location will be announced soon! Watch the calendar or send an
email if you want to be put on the interest list to attend!
Clinical
Flow Cytometry
Dr. Lawrence Diamond has joined us to present a
very flexible program in Clinical Flow Cytometry! We can offer
not just the basics of flow technology, but specific issues of
interest to the clinical laboratory, regulations, controls, and case
studies in various disease states. FloCyte is accredited by the
State of CA for continuing education, and by virtue of that
accreditation, we can also offer contact hours for Cytometrists with
ASCP Qualifications in Cytometry for their required CEUs.
We are now offering this course as an excellent option for medical
labs. Please contact Sue DeMaggio for the opportunity to
host this course.
Consulting Courses
FloCyte Training Program is often called upon to
offer one on one (or two or three) training, to coach individuals who have
inherited an old instrument, or moved into a new lab with an instrument that is
no longer supported by the manufacturer for training. As you may know,
even brand new instrument purchases offer 1-2 slots for training at the
manufacturer, and if you have several individuals who need training on an
instrument, we can come to you and offer training in your facility, or take you
to an expert on that instrument, in their own lab, for dedicated training!
Perhaps you are adding a new flow cytometry
technique to your research, FloCyte can help there as well, with experts who are
familiar and comfortable with all the different techniques you can accomplish by
flow.
Biomedical technician Training, specifically for those whose
responsibility it is to maintain the instrument for your facility, is also
available.
If you have any specific, dedicated training that
would help you in your use of this technology, Please contact
FloCyte directly. for
training on a one to one basis for the specific instrument you own.
Courses in Development
Programs in the planning stages are Special Applications courses such as Quantitative Flow, Stem
Cells, and Cell Signaling.
We are also beginning development of a 2 day sorting course for those who want to become more
efficient and productive sorting. We would love to present a 2-3 day set
of courses on Advanced topics at your own facility! Ask us about those
arrangements!
PLEASE submit to us ideas for other Advanced
training!
