FloCyte is honored to
have Dr. Alfonso Blanco join our UK and European team. He
obtained his B.Sc. in Biology in 1995 from the University of
Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. Biology
from the Universidade de Vigo, Spain, in 1997 and 2003
respectively. He joined the UCD – Core Technology Unit of the
UCD – Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research
in May 2004 in order to develop the Flow Cytometry Core
Technology and research projects specific to this technology.
Since its
establishment, the Core Technology has provided service to
different groups and institutions all around Ireland in
different fields: cancer, stem cells, apoptosis, viability, cell
cycle, calcium flux, transfection, bionanoparticles, immunology.
The core facility was 1 of the 5 European beta test sites for
Accuri Cytometers and Chemometec as well as for some flow
cytometry software. Under his supervision, the UCD Flow
cytometry core facility has become the reference site for flow
cytometry in Ireland.
Alfonso Blanco has won
the “Accuri´s Creativity Awards 2009: Innovative Applications of
Flow Cytometry” and the 2011 ISAC Scholar program. He is one of
the Scientific Advisor of Radisens Diagnostics for the design of
portable diagnostic system.
He is the founder and
president of the Irish Cytometry Society (ICyS), established in
2005 and he’s involved in the organization of their annual
meetings and co-chair of the 11th Euroconference in
Clinical Cytometry.
