FloCyte is delighted to add Lora Barsky to our list of
distinguished Associates! She is the Director of Flow Cytometry
for the Broad CIRM Center at USC and the USC/Norris
Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Southern
California, and will be working with us on our Comprehensive
Flow Courses and on our Stem Cell and project under way now.
Lora received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from the
University of California, Irvine. Early in her career, she spent
two years as a technician at Specialty Laboratories, INC.
preparing blood and bone marrow specimens for Leukemia/Lymphoma
immunophenotyping and preparing breast biopsies for Cell Cycle
Analysis. Lora’s expertise in flow cytometry developed while
serving as the Manager of Flow Cytometry for the Division of
Research Immunology and Bone Marrow Transplant at Childrens
Hospital Los Angeles. Working as the Lead Sort Operator for
fourteen years, she assisted Principal Investigators who studied
X-Linked Immune Deficiencies, Adult Stem Cell Biology, Gene
Therapy, Red Cell Development, and Human Embryonic Stem Cell
studies. She is member of the International Society for
Advancement of Cytometry and the Clinical Cytometry Society.
Lora is currently participating on the Education Committee for
ISAC and has worked on the Isotype Control Task Force. She was
faculty for the ISAC2008 Introductory Flow Cytometry Course in
Budapest, Hungary and also in Seattle at CYTO2010. Lora has
attended multiple flow cytometry and imaging courses, including
BD Key operator courses for FACScan, FACSVantage, TurboSort
Option, DiVa Option, FACSAria, FloCyte Regional Training Course
for Multiparamter Compensation and Apoptosis, and the Roswell
Clinical Course.
Lora has experience working with the FACScan, FACSCalibur,
FACSVange and DiVa FACSVantage, Aria I, Aria II, LSRII, Cyan
ADP, Imagestream 100, and Arrayscan VTI.
