FloCyte
is delighted to add Matt Cochran to our Associates list!
Matt graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo
in 2001 and immediately began working at the University of
Rochester as a research technician. After three years in
infectious disease research, he joined the Human Immunology
Center as the laboratory manager. The HIC lab was the proud
owner of a brand new LSRII and with that a “flow jock” was
born. For five years in the HIC lab, Matt provided flow
cytometry training and instrument support, all the while trying
to soak up as much flow cytometry knowledge as possible. During
his time there Matt also participated in the development of
numerous multicolor flow cytometry panels and assays in
collaboration with a wide variety of groups at the University.
In 2009, Matt moved to the URMC Flow Cytometry Core and became
the technical manager of the facility with Director Tim Bushnell
Ph.D. Matt’s responsibilities include managing the day-to-day
operations of the core and the training and support of the over
500 registered users. The core comprises of 2 FACSAria cells
sorters, 4 LSRIIs, 2 FACSCantos, 1 Accuri C6 and an Image Stream
X to satisfy the broad needs of the user base. While Matt
greatly enjoys the training and support aspects of his job,
whenever possible he likes to work on developing multicolor flow
cytometry techniques and instrument characterization and QC.
